Kant and Russell on Leibniz’ Existential Assertions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Leibniz believed in a God that has the power to create beings and whose existence could be priori demonstrated. Kant (KrV, A 592-602/B 620-630) objected similar demonstrations all presuppose false claim is real property. Russell (London New York: Routledge, 1992) added if were property should have concluded does not actually anything at all. First, I show Leibniz’ conception of incompatible with one presupposes. Subsequently, argue on Russell’s objection immediately undermined.

Leibniz and Kant on Miracles: Rationalism, Religion, and the Laws

Both Leibniz and Kant were heirs of such a tradition. But both were also explanatory rationalists about the empirical world: more committed than your average philosopher to its thoroughgoing intelligibility. (Leibniz was also an explanatory rationalist about the nonempirical, fundamental world; on that issue, given his commitments to freedom and noumenal ignorance, Kant famously demurred.) Thes...

Existential Assertions for Voting Protocols

In [22], we extend the Dolev-Yao model with assertions. We build on that work and add existential abstraction to the language, which allows us to translate common constructs used in voting protocols into proof properties. We also give an equivalencebased definition of anonymity in this model, and prove anonymity for the FOO voting protocol.

What did Russell Learn from Leibniz ? Nicholas

Russell's rejection in 1898 of the doctrine of internal relations—the view that all relations are grounded in the intrinsic properties of the terms related—was a decisive part of his break with Hegelian-ism and opened the way for his turn to analytic philosophy. Before rejecting it, Russell had given the doctrine little thought, though it played an essential role in the most intractable of the ...

The Argument of Possibility and necessity encountering the critiques of Russell, Hume, and Kant

The argument of possibility and necessity- which is considered as some of the most important arguments in proving the existence of God - have taken a key place in humanschr('39') thoughts. In history, among thinkers related to the creation of the universe, no major philosopher or thinker can be found other than those who have faced this argument; thus this argument has met many criticisms an...

Primitive recursive selection functions for existential assertions over abstract algebras

We generalize to abstract many-sorted algebras the classical proof-theoretic result due to Parsons, Mints and Takeuti that an assertion ∀x ∃yP (x, y) (where P is Σ01), provable in Peano arithmetic withΣ 1 induction, has a primitive recursive selection function. This involves a corresponding generalization to such algebras of the notion of primitive recursiveness . The main difficulty encountere...
